To enable the management of advanced 5G service assurance scenarios, MYCOM OSI, a member of the 5G Innovation Center at the UK’s University of Surrey, collaborates with researchers and provides its software to manage the end-to-end performance of the 5GIC's 5G test network. It also collaborates in TM Forum’s Catalyst proof of concepts to demonstrate its technology managing 5G networks and 5G network slices using closed loop automation.

Guaranteeing critical measurements of latency, reliability and connectivity requires real-time, closed loop assurance solutions.

MYCOM OSI participated in the Catalyst proof of concept ‘5G Intelligent Service Planning and Optimization' during TM Forum Digital transformation World 2018 in Nice.

With the ‘5G Intelligent Service Planning and Optimization’ Catalyst, MYCOM OSI showcased how 5G can enable new immersive experiences at major events by demonstrating how complex, movable 5G networks can be automatically planned, optimized and assured to support self-provisioned on-demand services. Optimal customer experience can be obtained through dynamic service creation and planning, along with reactive and proactive closed loop automation in conjunction with Artificial Intelligence.

With the 5G Intelligent Service Operations Catalyst, MYCOM OSI demonstrated how closed loop assurance of multiple 5G network slices enables unprecedented fan engagement and immersive experiences through the provision of innovative new services with higher performance and quality at reduced cost and complexity. Such services are assured through reactive and proactive closed loop automation that integrates Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. With 5G technology, CSPs can enable new revenue streams by managing and launching 5G slice-based services, including on-demand 4K video streaming from multiple cameras, drone-based broadcasting and Internet of Things (IoT)-provided statistics.

At the TM Forum flagship event, MYCOM OSI was also pleased to share with the other members of this Catalyst the TM Forum ‘Outstanding Catalyst Communications’ award for the promotional efforts of the team.

5G Service operations: Closed Loop Assurance of 5G Network Slices

In 2017, MYCOM OSI also participated in the Catalyst proof of concept ‘5G Service Operations: Closed Loop Assurance of 5G Network Slices’ during TM Forum Live! in Nice. In the Catalyst, MYCOM OSI’s Experience Assurance and Analytics™ (EAA™) assurance suite integrated with a 5G RAN and a 5G NFV EPC core to assure and orchestrate an ultra-reliable, low latency connected factory network slice using policy-based automation and closed-loop assurance. The Catalyst also demonstrated how MYCOM  OSI integrates with a third-party Domain/Service Orchestrator for modelling using TOSCA and for inventory/lifecycle updates, and also demonstrated the use of TM Forum APIs for ecosystem integration.

MYCOM OSI is an industry partner of University of Surrey’s state-of-the-art 5G Innovation Centre. The company provides software and expertise around managing and optimizing network and service performance and quality, which are critical success factors for 5G.

At the 5GIC, MYCOM OSI software is used to monitor end-to-end network performance of the 5GIC testbed – from the devices to base stations to core network servers –, with dashboards displaying performance metrics of the two technology demonstrations that showcase the testbed facility: ultra-high-definition (4k) video streaming over a mobile network, and; a new (5G-Sparse Code Multiple Access) radio waveform that supports 300% more IoT (Internet of Things) devices than 4G.

The MYCOM OSI dashboards include a network-wide view of equipment performance as well as design parameters related to the quality of the consumer experience that are critical to 5G success, including delay, volume of data transferred, and reliability. By analysing the real-time performance of these parameters in the 5GIC Testbed, the MYCOM OSI platform validates the designs of 5G R&D teams as well as providing analysis tools to further optimize those designs.

MYCOM OSI provides expertise around managing and optimizing network and service performance and quality which are critical success factors for 5G. It also considers pragmatic best practices for rolling out 5G within the context of existing network technologies like 3G, 4G, HetNet and virtualized networks such as NFV, SDN, C-RAN.
